(More customer reviews)I bought this kit recently for an old deck off the back porch. I'd have to say I'm impressed with the results. The kit contains 2 gallons of the paint and a special roller. I got mine tinted Cedar but you can get 20 standard colors or even custom colors if you want. It mixes just like standard paint. The paint is very thick with grit in it. It does not go on easily. Since many of the deck boards are cupped slightly it does not cover without going over it several times in all directions. I found that the best method is to put some on with the roller then go back with a brush to smooth it out and fill cracks, then go back over it with an unloaded roller to get the consistent finish. Note: If you use the roller the finish is pretty rough. It's meant to be non-slip, and it definitely is. If you want a little smoother finish go over it with the brush instead of the roller after you get it covered. Maybe a smoother roller might work too. Because it is so thick it does not cover much area. My little side porch is about 8'x8' with 4 stairs on each end and it used a whole gallon for each coat. There's also a lot of splatter, so cover up railings well.
This is pretty labor intensive to get on properly. Be prepared to be on your knees for a while, but the results look pretty good. Now the question is, will it hold up. I was walking on it in bare feet within 3 hours after letting it dry in the sun. The roughness of the finish isn't bad to walk on but you might want to try a smoother finish on the first coat to see what it looks like and do the roller finish on the second if you want.
